Self-Help

Self-help and help from above

What does it mean when we talk about self-help.

READ MORE FROM BISHOP RENATO’S BLOG

Self-help entails taking responsibility for your actions and not waiting for anyone or even God to carry out your duties.

When you haven’t even completed your part, there is no point in criticizing Him or asking Him why something hasn’t happened yet.

I really believe in both receiving aid from above and helping oneself.

Only when there is self-help does heaven aid.

Only when you help yourself and play your part will God be able to assist you.

God is not an independent being. He cooperates with your actions.

Therefore, you must assess if you are acting when you should pray or praying when you should act.

O Lord, I am calling to you. Please hurry!

Listen when I cry to you for help!

Accept my prayer as incense offered to you,

and my upraised hands as an evening offering.

 (Psalm 141:1-2)

Does Self-Help has limits?

Yes, Self-Help has its limits, and those limits are set by you. When there is nothing else to be done, self-help comes to an end.

Here is where assistance from above begins.

The psalmist David, who was being persecuted by King Saul, who wanted him dead, used the verses above in prayer.

David was powerless to take any further action. David was being sought after by the king and all of his soldiers as a lion is its prey.

David would seek refuge in caverns while pleading with God for help from above.

When all other options have been exhausted, it is time to do as David did and call out to God with trust.

You can express your worries, concerns, and uncertainties to God right where you are or in the closest room.

Make your plea known to Him in faith. Just as He responded to David, so will He respond to you!
