Fast of Daniel

We all possess an earthy mindset from the minute we are born, which becomes more evident when we are old enough to understand right from wrong. Since we are born sinners, we are unable to escape having a worldly perspective.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

It is possible to change one’s opinion, nevertheless. Genesis 32 states that in order to become “Israels,” one must change into new beings and cease to be “Jacobs.” And we’ll need twenty-one days to accomplish it!

Why 21days?

Something very special was going to happen when Daniel began his quest to seek God’s face through a unique fast (see Daniel 10:1-3). From then on, God was able to give Daniel amazing revelations that developed into predictions of such biblical importance that Christian scholars are still studying them today (see Daniel 1:8). Fasting was actually a habit that Daniel followed when he was in Babylon, both to allow God to speak to him and to keep himself pure from all the immorality around him.

Daniel made himself accessible to hear from God, therefore God was able to communicate to him. And it’s the same today. God often tries to communicate to us, but we are too preoccupied with our own pursuits, pastimes, plans for the future, meaningless information that leads nowhere, television shows we watch that don’t deepen our faith, etc. When our minds are overflowing with meaningless data, it becomes nearly impossible to distinguish God’s voice from the cacophony of external voices.

That is the main goal of the Fast of Daniel! turning off all distractions in order to devote yourself to the Holy Spirit.

During the Daniel Fast, we set aside secular information to concentrate on God’s presence. It’s an opportunity for you to cleanse yourself of pointless material that may occasionally obstruct your ability to grow closer to God.

Starting on Thursday, July 11 and ending on July 31, is when the Fast of Daniel is scheduled to take place.
